Mission

To prepare Loma Linda Doctors for global service.

The Loma Linda University Residency Medicine Programs uphold the mission of Loma Linda University, "To continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ" and "Make Man Whole".  Embracing service to the advantaged and disadvantaged here and abroad, our purpose is the formation of servant leaders committed to reducing global suffering and health disparities.

A program in which multiple departments cooperate, the Global Service Pathway provides customized postgraduate experiences that prepare physicians for global practice and service.  The Global Service Concentration allows residents to provide health care in international and local service settings, while achieving basic competencies in Global Health.

Goals and Objectives

  • Equip physicians for short- and long-term missions abroad
  • Create a community that fosters service and personal growth 
  • Promote a global framework on health care

Residents will be provided with the opportunity for a basic or advanced concentration in global health service.

Basic Concentration Requirements

The basic concentration includes:

  • International service elective
  • Academic CTropMed certificate course
  • Monthly lectures on global health
  • Research Project with research and statistical support
  • Local community-based service opportunities
  • Mentorship with experienced global health clinicians

Advanced Concentration Requirements

The advanced concentration includes the basic concentration requirements plus:

  • CTropMed certificate exam through ASTMH
  • ASTMH membership
  • Health Emergencies in Large Populations (H.E.L.P.) Certificate (John Hopkins University)
  • The advanced concentration is financially supported for Deferred Mission Appointees
